Information
The Hudson Music Club (HMC) is a non-profit, volunteer based organization dedicated to
bringing quality musical entertainment to Hudson and the surrounding Montreal area. This
Club is the ONLY community theatre group in the entire Montreal area, at this time that is
devoted 100% to English-language Broadway musical theatre. Our high quality shows are
produced, involving close to 100 volunteers, whose commitment spans over a period of
almost 8 months each year. Our objective is to continue to grow, expand and to take on
more exciting and challenging productions and projects in the future. HMC recognizes the
importance of family life in the community and it encourages the participation of entire
families in its activities. HMC productions are currently staged at Théâtre Paul-Émile-
Meloche in Vaudreuil- Dorion with a capacity of close to 500.
History
HMC was formed in 1952 as a Variety show called the “Follies” to raise money for
Wyman Church in Hudson. In 1961 we replaced the “Follies” and put on our first book
show "HMS Pinafore". We continued with Gilbert and Sullivan for 16 years with the
exception of “Cabaret” produced in 1975. In 1980 we changed direction again and did our
first Broadway revue “A Gift of Broadway”. We produced our first Broadway book show
(Guys and Dolls) in 1984 and have been this to present day. We have developed over the
years into our present form with much love and dedication. Our volunteers involve 'young'
people of all ages - from 11 to 91. The musical talents of the numerous children, teenagers
and adults involved have been developed and challenged, while entertaining and
enthralling our growing audience. Many HMC youth and young adults have taken their
new found love for the theatre and continued on professionally either on stage as actors,
singers and/or dancers, directors, or teaching.
Charity
Being a non profit organization, HMC has donated a portion of the proceeds from each
show to many worthwhile local charities. Over the years we have supported charities in
Hudson and the surrounding area including VON/NOVA, Hudson Firefighters, La
Passerelle- shelter and First Responder’s Medical Unit.
This year we have selected -Le Pont/ Bridging – Food bank as our first tier charity. We are
working side by side with them and are supporting them in many facets. We are confident
that we will be able to raise enough money to also help the Hudson Youth Center.
We created and support “GIVE CHRISTMAS AWAY” collection of shoe boxes filled with
gifts like a Christmas stocking for the local underprivileged.
We also donate a bursary each year to a deserving graduating student in music from
Westwood Senior high school.
We also support many other activities within our community and donate our time, our
creativity and talents and spread our passion for the club and Hudson where ever we go.
